Film Certificate - Age Rating
For my horror film opening clip, I am going to make it a 15 age rating because, my horror film is based on psychological not gore, this is why I have rated it lower than traditional horror films. Additionally, when I sent out my questionnaires I found that more people aged 13 to 15 years old watched horror film compared to 16 years plus, this is another reason why I have chosen to make my age rating 16.
One main reason why I have chosen 15 and not 18 years old is because in my opening clip to a horror film, we do use bad language but, not to much.
Horror Film - Credits
This is at the beginning of the film.
· Name of production company/companies (always respect the people with the money); e.g. "A Big Name Production" – Digital Bean Production
· Producer – Rebecca Scott
· Actors (listed in order based upon their personal fame and prominence in the movie –
Leo Muyakua = villain/ Hero
Megan Curtis – Stereotypical Blonde
Patrick Read – Jock
Rebecca Scott - Geek
· Screenplay Writer – Rebecca Scott
· Film Editor– Rebecca Scott
· Sound Effects – Peter John Ross (www.sonnyboo.com)
· Director (this is optional) - Rebecca Scott
This is at the end of the film.
· The Movie Title – Silent Death
Originally the “movie title” was at the beginning of the film, I have decided to change it to the end because, I have a sound track of an evil laugh I wanted it to be at the end of the film because, I wanted a big black out and then the evil laugh while the title is fading in and out. I videoed a establishing shot of the bridge I am going to use this as the key to the credits. I am going to have the credits flying across the bridge and also this will be an establishing shot of the scene.
Horror Film - Sound
I have picked one song online, I took this song from sonny boo website. This is a website where you can use his original songs and they are copy right free, all you have to do is say "sonny boo.com - Peter john ross". I have only used one of his songs but i have used different clips from this song, i have chosen this song in particular because, it starts very quiet but as we get into the main bit of the song the music increases which helps bring the bad tension atmosphere.
Horror Review - Scream
Scream (1996)
This movie also completely changed the horror genre and every scary movie that’s come out since takes a little something from Scream... I will always remember the first time I saw Scream... It really captivates its audiences. (IMDB)
In 1996, when I saw this in the theatre, I was expecting to see a predictable movie. That we would just get bored with. But I was wrong. This has to be one of the cleverest movies of the 90's. Believe me, this was an awesome thriller. Wes Craven should stick to movies like this, it had a wonderful cast. Funny lines. Scary moments. Classic horror scenes that will keep you at the edge of your seat. A movie that you'll rewind and want to watch again and again. And after the 50th time you watch it, you'll say, just one more time.
So, if you have good taste, or are looking for something original, watch this film. And get the trilogy DVD set. It's a screamer!
10/10 (IMDB)
Analysis;
I have picked two reviews to analyses because, the first one says that it changed the horror genre and this is true because it was one of the first horror films to use post modernism is a good way, and this made the film succeed. Additionally this person says that the way the film is made, “really captivates its audiences” this shows me that scream is a good example for a horror film which has used post modernism very well. After this film was created, people started coming up with the key word “screamer” this was to signify what scream was about.
Also from the second review, the quote “This has to be one of the cleverest movies of the 90's”. A lot of people agree with this, this shows that it is a very popular film in the time it was made, but furthermore scream is still a very popular film, because we are on the third DVD and people are still very excited to go and see the film.
Horror Review - Final Destination 3
Final Destination 3 (2006)
I went expecting what I got, Final Destination 3. It rocked! I loved the first two and saw them at the cinema, so naturally I had to see this one there too. Same plot, well what did you expect really this is a trilogy? OK, so you know that someone sees them die, doesn't die, people die the end. What you don't know is how people are going to die, what twists will they put in, will they then try to forever escape death or try to end it? It had the usual teen movie stereotypes; the perfect couple, the nearly perfect couple, jock, Goth's and preppy Vally girls. You know as soon as it starts the perfect couple will split, the nearly perfect couple the girl is gonna dump the apparently chauvinistic guys ass and he wants to marry her, the valley girls don't have one braincell between them and that the sister, that shouldn't be there, the sibling rivalry will be broken, bonds made then it will come back into play later, then bonds remade.
The CGI of the ball in the machine dropping between fate, luck and other things before falling into death was a good touch. I loved the way they sped up and slowed down the movement of the rides in the park it just added a more sinister touch especially with the way peoples screams fade in and out, like you hear on those rides that go round and round.
(IMDB)
It final destination people was expecting the third one to be boring and have a terrible plot like the first two but this was not the case. When reading this review the person said that this was a good film and used the horror conventions very well. Although it had numbers of characters in it, it still had the main roles of the jock, final girl, and creepy people. A lot of people agree that they did not expect that ending, this was a good thing because it gave the thrill back in the final destinations. As well as going against the horror conventions, they also did use the stereotypical teen roles.
When watching this film they do use different effects to make the film look better. When they use the speed up and slow down effects when someone is being killed, this is a good thing because it gives people the thrill to see what is happening.
Also the sound effect of the screams is very good because, it is a sound what can stick in your head. When using this distinctive sound this means they can use it in all of the Final Destinations to make it as someone there to make people remember what it is about. Finally at the beginning of the film when they are on the ride, the sounds are very significant because you can hear a faded sound of people screams which gives the horror audience a thrill.
Horror Review - The Ring
The ring (2012)
Review;
I must say that I consider myself to be a lover of horror, but much too often, sex and gore is substituted for real horror and you don't get that feeling of genuine fear in the pit of your stomach. Not so with "The Ring". Never have I seen a film that has affected me so.
The images seem to tug at your subconscious, at the dark things we keep inside. I haven't been able to close my eyes without replaying bits of the film behind my eyelids. I have slept with the light on since I've seen it, and we can't stop talking about it. Hands down, it was the best, the scariest, the creepiest, and the most intense horror film ever.
The audience in the theatre all gripped their armrests, breathed heavily and felt everything the characters were experiencing. It was excellent! But beware.... don't expect to leave "The Ring" in the movie theatre; it will certainly be with you for a long time. (IMDB)
From the review it shows that the ring is a good film and it follows some of the horror conventions. For example The Ring uses the stereotypical ‘creepy’ kid to add tension and to make the audience feel more freaked out. From this review the person has said that ring also have gone against the conventions of the horror film and used psychological and not gore and sex. Most people who watch horror films start to feel that sex and gore are over rated and that they use it to much. Recently in horror films people don’t get scared any more they become bored and just find the film lame. On the other hand this person says that ring is a change in the positive direction and they have put a new twist on the horror films and made it new and an actual horror.
This person has says that this is the best and most intense horror film he has seen in a while. This person in this horror film didn’t mention the original ring film which was called ‘Ringu’ most people believe this to be the scarier film of the two. Many reviews I have read have said that this is the ‘psychological positive turn’.
In the ring they use an isolated location to add to the tension, but on the other hand they do use the city as well which then shows when they are in the isolated location they know that something bad will happen, it is like the negative chain of events which will happen. Additionally half way through the film there are parts set in an abandoned island and mental hospital this is what brings the most horror atmosphere to the scene.
The fact that the film Ring has the film which shows iconography, throughout the film they keep returning to the video and how whatever happens in the film will happen to you. At first the people don’t understand the video but after the lead final girl goes searching she finds out what it is about.
The characters in The Ring show the film following the horror conventions. The have the final girl, the creepy kid, the man, the kids who get killed start away (the first girl to get killed shows us as her being the stereotypical dumb teen). In this film they have two creepy kids at first you have the son who is strange and very odd to other children his age. Then of course you have the girl who had been trapped away because she was weird.
