Evaluation - Question Seven

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in progression from it to the full product?

In my preliminary task, I used hand held, one problem with this was that it looked to ruff and didn’t look smooth. Throughout the final product I decided to use the tripod in my opening to a horror film because, it looked smoother. Additionally at the end of my preliminary task, when I was walking out the camera work is very wobbly, and this was one of the main reasons why I have chosen to use the tripod. Overall, the tripod is better for smooth pan shots and I decided because I use a few establishing shots it made me think that tripod would work better for my film.

When editing my preliminary task, in some scenes I cut it to quick so it missed out some of the dialogue. When editing my film I was more careful about this. Additionally in the editing of the preliminary there were some bits where it was obvious that we filmed it in pieces, which made the quality bad. In my filming when filming it I filmed in smaller chucks with less dialogue to save quick cuts and missed dialogue.

Additionally when filming my opening to a horror film I didn’t really look at the scene, I didn’t watch it to see if it finds ok. In my preliminary task when the teacher came in to tell me off it wasn’t very good because you could see I’m in a classroom, this made me confused when watching it. Some when filming my original film, I made sure that when they said there is an opening, there once was. I believe that my Filming skills had improved a lot since the filming of the preliminary task.

In my preliminary task, I didn’t use music in my movie but in my movie I had to add music to add tension. So before I started on my horror film, I used my preliminary task as a starting point and I added music so I could understand how to use it.

A final thing I have changed and used to help me improve is editing. When editing my preliminary task I realised that lighting was an issue for my horror film because if I was to get the scary feel to it, it had to look muggy and rubbish. So when doing my horror film I made sure I checked the weather for the day what would look the best in my film.

Finally, I believe I had made improvements from the beginning to the end. I think I know can use editing software and complete a video. Also since my preliminary task I know feel comfortable in using a Toshiba camera and tripod.
